Why
Macintosh/MacOS? All of the major productivity, graphics, communications and support tools, such as Microsoft Office, Claris FileMaker Pro, WordPerfect, ClarisWorks, Microsoft FoxPro, Symantec Act!, Symantec Norton Utilities, Adobe PageMaker, Netscape Navigator, Eudora Pro, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Adobe Photoshop, Quicken, QuickBooks Pro, MYOB Accounting, Corel Draw, Macromind Director, Timbuktu Pro, Canvas 5, etc. are available for the Macintosh platform. Thousands of software titles are available for both MacOS and other operating environments, making it easy to integrate MacOS systems with non-MacOS PCs. Many of these applications also give you the ability to save data in a format used by the Microsoft Windows version of the application. In addition, every MacOS system has the capability to read/write/format PC-formatted disks, and includes file translators for the most popular PC file formats. There are nearly two thousand Macintosh-only titles, such as Adobe Type Reunion, IncWell DMG SuperCard, Connectix Speed Doubler, Apple PlainTalk, Avid Videoshop, Macromedia SoundEdit 16, Claris Emailer and Staz Software FutureBasic to name just a few. Many of these applications take advantage of software and/or hardware capabilities that are available only for the MacOS platform. Another significant advantage of the Macintosh platform is that, with additional software and/or hardware, the Mac can run MS-DOS 6.2, Microsoft Windows 3.x and Microsoft Windows 95, along with software written for those operating environments. Add-in cards that have a Pentium processor chip are available for most Macintosh computers, effectively making the Mac two computers in one. For those users who have only occasional need to run DOS or MS Windows-based software, there are Virtual PC from Connectix and Insignia Solutions' SoftWindows 95 and SoftWindows, that provide software emulation of the Windows 95 and Windows 3.x environments. |
